Speech Language Pathology

Speech Language Pathology is a professional field devoted to the assessment and treatment of communication and swallowing (dysphagia) disorders.

Within the rehabilitation setting, a speech language pathologist will regularly work with clients in an attempt to optimize functioning in activities of everyday living, as well as work and school.  At DMARehability our therapeutic focus involves the following services, either independently or a combination of such.

Cognitive Communication Assessments and Treatment

The evaluation of cognitive functioning as it pertains to one’s ability to processing and effectively use language for everyday functioning. Treatment is directed to improve or compensate for any deficiencies identified in the matrix of cognitive and language functioning.

Language Assessment and Treatment

Assessment and treatment of difficulties pertaining to the comprehension and/or expression of  spoken, written, or other symbol based language systems.

Motor Speech Assessment and Treatment

Examination, and treatment if necessary, of deficiencies of the oral musculature and/or oral motor skills as it pertains to the process of speech.

Dysphagia Assessment and Management

Identification, evaluation, and management of disorders pertaining to the oral, pharyngeal, and esophageal phases of swallowing.
